In recent years the plight of this culturally iconic wader has become more and more urgent. With a 40% decline in Curlew between 1995 and 2015, the BTO responded with the BTO Curlew Appeal which aims to reverse the decline. The GPS tags will help build a clearer picture in identifying potential causes and highlighting the possible conservation areas for intervention.
