Sunrise over Burley Moor, Wharfedale
As winter arrives and the days grow shorter, it’s easy to feel a little gloomy. The “winter blues” as they call them, are a very common experience around this time of year.

But there is also a number of very cool things that come with winter and the shortened daylight hours. One of the best ones is that you don’t have to get up so early to catch a sunrise!

As Winter Solstice approaches the sun gradually comes up later and later. By the end of December, the folk in Leeds and West Yorkshire can catch a sunrise as late as 08:24!

Whatever the time of year, there is something very special about welcoming in a new day by observing a sunrise. This Saturday as part of the Walking Photography Festival in Ilkley I’m going to be taking a group up on a Dawn photo walk. During the walk we’ll be going over some of the best ways to capture an awesome dawn photo as well as some other useful photography tips. Following the walk we’ll be heading off to Outside the Box Cafe for a cooked breakfast and hot drink!
