“I need things to go back to normal; I just don’t want it to.”
2020 has been been a terrible year, but it has also been a defining year. It has forced change, some good, some bad. It has introduced what many describe as a “new normal”.
Our lockdown has been the best of times and the worst of times. I’ve exchanged some old bad habits for new ones. I’ve felt the closeness of my family bubble while feeling a painful distance for the family outside of it. I’ve saved an absolute fortune on coffee and cake but spent a fortune on digital subscriptions and biscuits. I’ve lost a lot of work while saving a lot on travel and expenses. I’ve lost weight, found time and lost all sense of what day of the week it is…
It’s the fragility and paradoxes of our own new normal that I’ve tried to capture in this personal and introspective portrait project. Below are some highlights from the series. You can see more photos on the New Normal project page.
