Over the summer I took many of walks along the banks of the river Wharfe. On one such walk, as I passed through a wooded area, I spotted this fledgling moving about a nest.
This late fledgling was a young sparrow hawk and one of it’s parents was still visiting regularly and keeping guard. This remarkable eye to eye experience was followed by several dull days of filled with heavy rain, I continued to observe the nest site and the sparrow hawks but didn’t bother with any photos. Each day the fledgling became more and more mobile, flying to trees further away from the nest before flying back again. By the end of the week the sun came out and the rain clouds finally departed, unfortunately so had the sparrow hawks; typical!
