“Are you ok? Do you need a doctor?”
A crispy, enchanting morning to the East of the village (Burley in Wharfedale) aptly named East Fields.
A Kestrel defrosting on a silhouetted tree as a young Buzzard flies and calls overhead, but the wild looking ponies smoking in the early morning light, nearly steel the show. An inquisitive Little Owl half shuffles out of a tree hollow, interested but lacking the enthusiasm to give chase to a bold Great Tit flirting with danger.
But stealing the show and closer to home in Grange Park, two redwings, keen to grab some breakfast after a cold night allow wonderfully close encounters. Hopping between the rays of light flipping frosty leaves and swallowing semi-thawed grubs I lie down to get eye to eye with this typically shy visitors.
“Are you ok? Do you need a doctor?” A concerned passer by asks. Without looking up, I reply, I couldn’t be happier.
